No school without school desks

The 2023-2024 school year has just ended in the chiefdom of Bena Kalambayi in the Province of Lomami in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to look closely, a large number of students have not studied in good conditions among other things, they have spent this entire school year sitting on a piece of wood or stone for lack of school desks in almost all the primary schools that CHFA visited.  The observation made is that many students in this region suffer from back pain, low back pain following the bad posture of sitting on a piece of wood all day long at school. This could jeopardize their growth and be a handicap in their adult lives. According to our surveys, the lack of school desks is a major cause that pushes some students to abandon school, which leads ipso facto to poor results in academic performance and dropping out of school at an early age because the lack of motivation. This could jeopardize their growth and be a handicap in their adult lives.

To overcome this recurring problem which is a major handicap to the socio-economic development of this region, NHFA would like to help these students who study on the ground with your participation of course, by offering 25 school desks for a class of 50 students in 15 schools of the place having 6 classes each for a total of 2100 school desks at the beginning of the next school year. The total cost of this project is estimated at USD147,000 USD or 70 USD per school desk (2100).

To achieve this by minimizing the blow, CHFA intends to manufacture these school desks on site in a carpentry workshop in the square of the chiefdom of Bena Kalambayi using local labor. An experience that CHFA has just lived by offering 30 benches to the EP school of Kabondoyi of the Chefferie of Bena Kalambayi in May of this year.

This project “NO SCHOOL WITHOUT SCHOOL DESKS” aims initially to provide these 15 primary schools of the Chefferie of Bena Kalambayi with SCHOOL DESKS to allow the students to study in the best conditions by creating an ideal setting to encourage them to love and go to school.

In the long term, this project aims at quality education and above all the well-being of the entire population of this region by avoiding the consequences that can cause diseases related to back pain.

Budget: $70 USD/desk or 147,000 USD/2100 desks
