Sustainable Agriculture In Greater Kasai Region

“The best bank is land. You put your seeds in it, it grows them for free.”

In DR Congo, food insecurity is just as deadly as insecurity caused by weapons. This is often the case for children and women who are undernourished. And as we all know, malnutrition is above all the greatest threat to child survival, whether we like it or not, and only agriculture can restore peace and food security. Malnutrition is predictable, preventable, treatable, and overcoming global hunger is affordable. No child or human being should die of hunger.

In the 21st century, the DRC is regularly experiencing recurrent food crises in several provinces, even though the country has the means to protect itself. This is why Canadian Hope for Africa (CHFA), a real asset, intervenes to help this population in order to combat food insecurity.

Our team in Ngandajika, has set up this A season an agriculture project of a few hectares in the localities of Kaseki and Mpoyi 15 km from the centre of Ngandajika, in the Province of Lomami, where we produce livestock  agricultural products such as corn (quality protein maize, locally called corn-meat which is extremely nutritious especially for children), cassava, beans, soybeans, and vegetables such as cassava leaves, sweet potato leaves, dock, sorrel, peppers, leeks etc. to help this population.

These income-generating activities, particularly in the areas of agricultural production and farming will benefit more the rural youth whose conditions are precarious and women who play an important role in both domestic tasks and economic activities, and finally these activities will benefit all the inhabitants of Ngandajika Territory as well as the surrounding communities by generating income and providing food.

But our gesture is compared to a drop in the ocean, that is why we are considering a long-term and sustainable solution by establishing a sustainable and industrial agriculture as early as next season, which is in September, to put an end to this food insecurity. In order to achieve this, we are asking for your help, both material and financial, to carry out this project.
